Keighley Target Sports started in 1933.
Parkwood Quarry used to be a working quarry for a brick manufacturer, servicing local Keighley builders. By 1946 the clay was exhausted… which gave us the opportunity to purchase the land for £50!
In the early 1980’s our 25 yard indoor range was built.
In 2016, we obtained planning permission for building another indoor range with 12 firing points.
This facility has been specifically designed to help those with varying disabilities to be able
to enjoy our sport…in particular, we would like to provide a range for acoustic shooting… for the
blind and visually impaired. Below is a video we filmed, to explain what acoustic shooting is about:-
Sometimes, if you have a disability you do not always have the opportunity to take part competitively. It simply isn’t possible because of your disability and therefore, you miss out on the thrills and challenges competing in this sport can give, we would like to change this situation…so that anyone with a disability…HAS the opportunity to enjoy and have fun shooting. We envisage the area to be covered by this venture would be the whole of West Yorkshire.
“Currently we are seeking further funding for this new project.”
For the future, the next ‘Target Sport’ we would like to begin at KTS is Archery. Our 100 yards outdoor range can be used for either Archery and/or Shooting.
We would welcome enquiries from experienced archers who might be interested in starting an Archery Section at KTS.
